Kinesiology taping is a common treatment modality used by many physiotherapists and health care providers. Several types of kinesiology tapes and taping methods are used in the treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunction and pain.
There are many proposed benefits of using kinesiology taping as an adjunction to the main treatment including: proprioreceptive facilitation, reduced muscle fatigue, muscle facilitation, reduced delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), pain inhibition, enhanced healing, such as reducing oedema, and improvement of lymphatic drainage and blood flow. The evidence for many proposed theories is still in its infancy and requires extensive research, however, some recent studies showed benefits from using kinesiology taping techniques in management of some musculoskeletal conditions especially when combined with manual techniques and exercise.
